SPTS to MPTS Conversion:
Cable TV digitazation
The digitization of Cable TV is the process of converting traditional analog TV signals into IP-based signals, enabling all TV channels to be accessible via IP addresses. Before digitization, TV channels operated using MPEG-2 SD/HD workflows, with all equipment designed to comply with MPEG-2 standards.
In a Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) system, MPEG-2 audio-video packets are transmitted over MPEG Transport Stream (TS). TS (Transport Stream) encapsulates the following:
Audio packets
Video pakets
Program Data Tables
This format is widely used in applications like IPTV, where packets are transmitted over multicast IP using protocols like UDP or RTP. A multicast IP can carry signals for one or multiple TV channels.
SPTS (Single Program Transport Stream)
SPTS refers to a transport stream containing only a single TV channel.
For example: udp://255.5.5.1
In this case, the multicast IP 255.5.5.1 contains only one TV channel.
MPTS (Multi Program Transport Stream)
MPTS refers to a transport stream that contains multiple TV channels.
For example: udp://255.5.5.1
Here, the multicast IP 255.5.5.1 carries several TV channels simultaneously
Note: The multicast IP mentioned is within the valid range of multicast IP addresses.
MPTS to SPTS Conversion
Purpose: Separate multiple TV channels from a single multicast IP into multiple single-channel multicast IPs.
SPTS to MPTS Conversion
Purpose: Combine multiple single-channel multicast IPs (SPTS) into a single multicast IP (MPTS). Our software is designed to help convert SPTS into MPTS effortlessly.
CBR vs. VBR in Transport Streams
Transport streams can have two types of bit rates:
CBR = Constant Bit Rate
VBR = Variable Bit Rate
To convert VBR to CBR, null packets (empty packets) are inserted into the stream. VBR streams can cause freezing of TV channels packed in a QAM, as one channel requesting a higher bitrate may consume bandwidth allocated to other channels. To prevent this, converting VBR to CBR with null packets and setting a maximum bitrate ensures smooth transmission without disrupting other channels.
